AI Readiness Audit

In 2 to 3 weeks, find out where AI will pay off in your business, what is in the way, and exactly where to start.

You get a readiness scorecard across five areas, the 3 to 5 AI use cases worth doing first, and a 90-day roadmap your leadership team agrees on.

What is an AI readiness audit?

An AI readiness audit is a short, structured review of how prepared your company is to use AI well. It looks at five areas: strategy and goals, data and systems, go-to-market workflows, people and skills, and governance and risk. Each gets a score, and the findings turn into a ranked list of AI use cases and a plan to start.

It covers the whole company and goes deepest where revenue is made: sales, marketing and customer success.

Most companies are already using AI somewhere. The audit replaces scattered experiments with one shared picture of where you are, where AI will move a number you care about, and what to do first.

WHAT I ASSESS

Five areas, scored on evidence

Each area is scored from 1 (exploring) to 4 (scaling), based on interviews, your actual tools and workflows, and the work your team produces.

  • Strategy and goals

Where AI should move a number your leadership already tracks: pipeline, cycle time, cost to serve, output per person.

    • Which goals AI can realistically affect this year
    • Who owns AI decisions today
    • What has already been tried, and what happened
  • Data and systems

Whether your CRM, marketing tools and documents are in good enough shape for AI to use them.

    • CRM and data hygiene
    • Where the knowledge AI would need actually lives
    • Tool overlap and what you already pay for
  • Workflows across the company

Every team gets a pass for quick wins. Sales, marketing and customer success get the deep dive, because that is where AI most often moves revenue.

    • Sales, marketing and customer success, in depth
    • HR, finance and operations, scanned for quick wins
    • The handoffs between teams
  • People and skills

How your team uses AI now, who is ahead, who is stuck, and what it would take to make adoption stick.

    • Current usage, sanctioned and unsanctioned
    • Skill gaps by role
    • Who could champion it internally
  • Governance and risk

The guardrails you need before AI touches customer data or goes out under your name.

    • AI use policy: in place, outdated or missing
    • Data privacy and client confidentiality
    • Review steps for AI-produced work

WHAT YOU GET

Walk away with a plan your team can act on

Every deliverable is written for your business, from what I see in your tools and hear from your team.

I have led AI adoption inside growing B2B companies, so the roadmap reflects what teams actually adopt.

  • AI readiness scorecard

A score from 1 to 4 in each of the five areas, with the evidence behind each score, so your leadership team sees the same picture.

  • Prioritized use-case list

The 3 to 5 AI opportunities worth doing first, each rated for impact, effort and risk, with a rough estimate of time or money saved.

  • 90-day starter roadmap

The 3 initiatives to start with: owner, tools, first steps and what success looks like at 30, 60 and 90 days.

  • Governance gap list

What your AI use policy needs to cover before you scale, based on what your team is already doing.

  • Executive debrief

A 60-minute session with your leadership team to walk through the findings, answer questions and agree on the first move.

HOW IT WORKS

Three weeks, start to finish

  1. Week 1: Kickoff and discovery

A 60-minute kickoff with the executive sponsor, then short interviews with 4 to 6 people across the business, weighted toward sales, marketing and customer success. You share access to, or screenshots of, the tools and reports that matter.
  2. Week 2: Analysis

I review your workflows, tools and data against the five areas, score each one, and size the opportunities. No work from your team this week beyond a few follow-up questions.
  3. Week 3: Roadmap and debrief

You receive the scorecard, use-case list and roadmap, then we walk through them with your leadership team in the executive debrief.

THE SCORING SCALE

Where most companies land

Each of the five areas gets one of these four levels. Most B2B teams I work with score a 1 or 2 in most areas. The roadmap moves the areas that matter most up one level in 90 days.

  • LEVEL 1

    Exploring

    Individual use

A few people use ChatGPT or Copilot on their own. No shared tools, policy or measurement.

  • LEVEL 2

    Experimenting

    Pilots

Teams have run pilots. Some worked, few spread. Data and ownership are the usual blockers.

  • LEVEL 3

    Operationalizing

    In the workflow

AI is built into specific workflows with an owner, a policy and a number it is expected to move.

  • LEVEL 4

    Scaling

    Across the business

AI is part of how the company plans, staffs and measures work, with governance that keeps up.

What does it cost?

From $3,000 / fixed fee

Most audits run $3,000 to $5,000, depending on company size and how many teams are involved.

WHO IT’S FOR

A good fit if you are…

  • B2B companies with roughly 20 to 500 employees. Big enough to have repeatable go-to-market work, small enough that one audit can see all of it.

  • Leaders who need a plan the whole team can agree on. Especially when sales, marketing and operations each have their own idea of where AI should start.

  • Teams that have tried AI and stalled. Pilots that never spread, tools nobody uses, or a policy question that froze everything.

WHO IT’S NOT FOR

Probably not the right fit if…

  • You need AI models built or trained. This audit decides where AI pays off and what to use. Custom model work is a different engagement with a different firm.

  • You want a vendor shortlist only. Tools come up, but the audit starts from your workflows and goals, and stays vendor-neutral.

FAQS: AI READINESS AUDIT

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an AI readiness audit?
An AI readiness audit is a short, structured review of how prepared a company is to use AI well. It looks at strategy, data and systems, workflows, people and governance, scores each one, and ends with a prioritized list of AI use cases and a plan to start. Mine covers the whole company, goes deepest on go-to-market, and takes 2 to 3 weeks.
How much does an AI readiness audit cost?
Audits start at $3,000. Most run $3,000 to $5,000, depending on company size and how many teams are involved. The fee is fixed and agreed before we start.
How long does the audit take?
Two to three weeks from kickoff to executive debrief. Your team’s time is about 6 to 8 hours in total, mostly in the first week.
What’s the difference between an AI readiness audit and an AI readiness assessment?
The terms are often used interchangeably. An assessment is usually a survey or a score. This audit includes a score, then goes further: interviews, a review of your actual tools and workflows, and a roadmap you can act on. If you want a quick self-check first, take the free AI readiness quiz.
Does the audit cover the whole company or just go-to-market?
The whole company, at two depths. HR, finance and operations get a lighter pass focused on quick wins. Sales, marketing and customer success get the full deep dive: prospecting, outreach, content, campaigns, reporting and the handoffs between teams. That is where I have spent 25+ years, and where AI most often moves revenue.
Who from our team needs to be involved?
An executive sponsor, plus 4 to 6 people who do the work day to day, from across the business and weighted toward sales, marketing and customer success. Your IT lead is helpful for one conversation about tools and data access. The audit is strategy work and involves no technical build.
Do you recommend specific AI tools?
Where it helps, yes, and always starting from what you already pay for. I am vendor-neutral and earn nothing from tool recommendations.
What do we need in place before we start?
Nothing special. A sponsor, access to the right people, and a willingness to show how work really gets done. You do not need to be “AI-ready” to start an AI readiness audit.
What happens after the audit?
You own the scorecard and roadmap and can run with them yourselves. If you want help, the usual next steps are an AI strategy workshop to build team alignment, fractional AI leadership to drive the roadmap, or AI policy work if governance is the gap.
Can the audit be done remotely?
Yes. Everything can run over video and shared documents. On-site sessions are available for teams in the Minneapolis–St. Paul area, or elsewhere by arrangement.
